About the Competition

In light of an ageing population in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) has embarked on different elderly housing projects for over 20 years and rolled out the Aging-in-Place (AIP) Scheme in rental estates to advocate the concept of “Ageing in Place”. To help the elderly live an independent and self-reliant retirement life, HKHS is sparing no efforts in promoting gerontechnology.

Since 2020, HKHS is organising the Gerontech Competition to encourage more of the younger generation to design elderly-friendly products through creative ideas and the application of technology and gerontology. The Competition also aims to promote an age-friendly community and inject new impetus into the gerontechnology industry.

The Competition consists of two rounds. Participating teams will first understand the theme of the Competition by taking part in various activities, followed by submission of preliminary design. Shortlisted teams from Round 1 will proceed to Round 2, in which they will receive advice from professionals and take part in elderly visits to learn more about the needs of the elderly for enhancing the practicality of their entries.
